UK Alevi Women’s Federation gathered together for its first managerial meeting in Nottingham, by announcing the new board of directors.
The meeting had its opening through the speeches came from Glasgow AKM and djemevi representative Aynur Akel. In her presentation, Akel said “Alevism is a belief that values women and this is recorded in the history. Despite this, when our women should be more on the front, due to the male-dominated order, women are bound to be pushed to the sidelines.”
European Alevi Women Union president Nevin Kamilağaoğlu, also stated that despite AKP’s oppressive policies, its success resides in the 4 million women working for the party.
The presentation “Harassment towards women” made by the union, was presented by Nurten Ozturk, following another presentation by Eren Tepe, on Turkish Religious Affairs’ discriminative approaches against women rights
The meeting also shaped the new board of directors, with the will of being a part of cultural diversity, work for human rights and freedom. The full list of the board can be found below:
