Offsted has introduced a new filter system in primary and secondary schools in an attempt to filter out ‘radical’ content.
In a statement issues by OFSTED, vowed to stop radicalism in an attempt to match the overall policy of the current government – and state of things – that aims to prevent ‘radicalism’ which may- or may not- have violent consequences. Also, the ministry of education has called upon teachers to prevent radical or terroristic propaganda.
After three English citizens – Shamima Begum (15); Amira Abase (15); and Kadiza Sultana (16) – left their homes’ – live’ to join ISIS in Syria, OFSTED took swift action by announcing these measures to prevent ‘radicalism’.
Even though the filter system exists in a some U.K. schools, the Conservative government has announced it will spread the system around Island as a whole, making it an official policy applied to all schools instead of a select few schools.
Meggy Morgan, the minister for eduation, said: “[As a parent myself, I understand the importance of education. For this reason, particularly, we have to do all we can to prevent radicalism].”
Radicalism is, of course, a word open to interpretation; what is really radical ? Our we to ban so called ‘extremist’ opinions of people – or people who call for violent acts ?
Looking back into the near past, the government – and the past government – have not been willing to define the term specifically. And, at one point, Socialists, Anarchists, Charities and various other bodies – or people – who have criticised the fundamental policies of the government have been muzzled – often banned from speaking and deemed radical extremists.
The filter system and the approach to it includes a danger to become extreme in its existence. Naturally, it may come to pass that this approach will create what it intended to prevent. So, know this risk, is the government actually doing something about violent tendencies of certain groups – or is this just a reminder that are imagination has suffered enough for us to run out of more ideas – feasible, less risky ones that will solve or control the problem ?!
