THE TRNC REPRESENTATIVE for London Oya Tuncalı has issued a new year message to the Turkish citizens living in Britain.
Below is her message.
“To the Turkish Cypriot and Turkish Community’s dearest associates, my dearest brothers and sisters,
As 2015 comes to an end and we prepare to enter 2016 with new hopes, I would like to wish a very Happy New Year to all our community’s citizens living in the United Kingdom.
I hope that 2015 has been a successful and progressive year for our citizens and wish them success for the new year 2016.
A project that we have heard about several years now and for the last four years which has been created, the water project from Turkey has finally been delivered to our country, the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus in October last month- to us this is one our dreams coming true.
A permanent possible solution that was discussed in May between the two sides is also another important development. In regards to higher education and the tourism sector, our country is developing rapidly and this year the numbers of students reached 81.000 and the number of international students reached 69.000. In the last five years their has been a great rise in tourists visiting the island. In 2015 (this year), the number of tourists was over 1.3 million.
She continued by saying: “You as citizens and representatives of our country are promoting and presenting our culture and values, by doing so you are contributing greatly to our representation as a country. By continuing to work together as the Turkish Cypriot Community, this will allows to have a stronger place in the United Kingdom and life in the general community.
This year our President of the Republic His Honour Mustafa Akıncı and honoured wife Meral Akıncı, our previous International Relations Minister Özdil Nami, Minister for International Relations Emine Çolak, Minister of Tourism Dr. Faiz Sucuoğlu and many of our MP’s and bureaucrats, they have all made important and high levels of communication in England. They have also attended events by our civil associations and unions. There was also a very beneficial visit which took place to the House of Parliament by our group Friends of TRNC.
Throughout the year our citizens worked together with us during meetings and we have done our best to address their problems and requirements. High numbers of guests have been seen at seminars, events, recitals, ceremonies and also receptions organised by our representative office. I would like to wish all my brothers and sisters across the world, in our country and for all humanity health, happiness and success for the new year 2016. With love and respect to all.”
