Twice-daily Rubbish collection introduced by Haringey council

HARINGEY COUNCIL has introduced an extra round of waste collection, from homes above shops and local businesses. Announced and approved by the council on Monday (14 December) as part of their commitment to keep Haringey clean.

The service will run seven days a week, with two allocated timed slots to leave bags for collection; residents and traders will be able to comment on the proposed time slots.

“Feedback from traders showed a wish to see a return to night-time collections we’re happy to have been able to meet this,” said Cllr Stuart McNamara, Cabinet member for Environment.

The council has also added that some roads may also see a ‘return of night time collections’, due to the increased levels of pressure to keep London borough’s tidy.

He added: “We’re introducing uniform once-weekly sweeps to all residential roads, residents and traders [should] play their part.”

“They can do this by not littering, by ensuring they only leave waste out for collection during the allotted times and by reporting dumping where they see it, so that together we can help keep the borough’s streets cleaner”.

To ensure the autumn season leaves are cleared, extra street sweeping crews have been organised by the council. These will be in place for the first six months of the changes.
