PLANS FOR MORE SCHOOL places in Enfield will be discussed at a meeting on Wednesday 21 October by Enfield Council for further primary and secondary school places in the borough.
Enfield Council will have explained that plans and funding are already in place to senior politicians. They are to provide an extra 330 primary and 300 secondary school places by September 2019 and cover the increase of the number of people.
The report also identifies the need to increase capacity in schools and establishments that provide education for children with acute special needs such as Autistic Spectrum Disorders.
Cllr Ayfer Orhan, Enfield Council’s Cabinet Member for Education, Children’s Services and Protection, said: “We are among the few London boroughs with demand for school places under control.
“In March this year more than 96% of Enfield children, whose parents applied to secondary schools by the deadline, were offered a place at one of their preferred six secondary schools. And first preferences at 92% were up by 4.48% on the 88.42% figure for all London.”
Cabinet Members will be asked to approve an updated pupil places strategy to ensure enough school places are available and give council officers and schools permission to carry out work to ensure the places are provided.
She added: “When schools are expanded we ensure that they are well equipped to teach the full range of subjects with specialist classrooms, expert teachers and innovation in all fields.
“We work very closely with headteachers and school governing bodies to determine the best ways to expand schools so that they can offer courses of study in improved facilities and achieve success.”

Since 2010 Enfield Council has created 4,410 permanent school places to meet the needs of its growing population.
