TURKISH CONSULATE has congratulated outstanding GCSE student Hanim Karakoc, who received 11 A* grades and one A in her exams.

EMIRHAN-HANIM

Hanim Karakoc was invited by Turkish Consul General Emirhan Yorulmazlar to the London Turkish Consulate reading her success in Londra Gazete.  The student who has been described as a ‘brainbox’, was invited as a guest with her father Mr Halil Karakoc on 3 September, 2015.

The General Consul Emirhan Yorulmaz said: “Congratulations on your success Hanim, you are a successful student and I would like to thank your family for raising such a role model child/teenager..”

He also brought attention to Office of Qualifications and Examinations Regulation (Ofqual) wanting to abolish the Turkish language GCSE and explained the importance of this subject being available to study and sit the exam.

Turkish Exams Must Continue

The Turkish language subject which is still available at GCSE and A-Level makes a big difference in students studies and their results. This subject can help hundreds of students be successful at getting into university, explained the General Consul.

He also thanked Londra Gazete for making aware the importance of the Turkish Language in education, as GCSE and A-Level and the community news it delivers to the public.

As an academic himself, London’s Consul General for Republic of Turkey Yorulmazlar expressed that the Turkish Community is very insensitive on this subject. The petitions set up to stop the British education abolishing foreign languages, almost17,000 signatures were given by Polish residents and only 2,000 signatures from the Turkish community.

Yorulmazlar continued with his speech and said: “We will stay in contact with Hanim Karakoc and continue to follow her throughout her education life. We are also ready to provide any support we can, should she need so.”

He underlined that it isn’t money which saves people futures but education and further studies. The immigrants who come to the UK see education as their top priority and that is what it should be, explained Yorulmazlar.

Baba Hakkı Karakoç, Hanım Karakoç ve anne Nesli Karakoç.

Role-model Daughter of Family from Elbistan

Her father, Halil Karakoç, came to the UK from the south-eastern Turkish town of Elbistan in 2004. He now runs his own marketing business and works six days a day to support his two daughters and two sons. Hanım’s mother, Nesli Karakoç, is a housewife. She doesn’t have a strong command of English and isn’t able to help her children with their homework, but does support them through other means, Hanım said.
