A Turkish family is holding North Middlesex Hospital responsible for the death of their three-year-old son.

Toddler Armağan Denli died of meningitis at the North London hospital last weekend, but his parents said he was sent home earlier on Saturday having incorrectly been diagnosed with chickenpox.

Yücel Denli, the boy’s father, said his wife Fatma took Armağan to the hospital’s A&E on Saturday afternoon but was kept waiting for six hours.

He said Armağan had a 39 degree temperature and that doctors only took a urine sample from him, and that when his temperature dropped he was sent home.

He continued: “But [Armağan] got worse after we took him home, so we brought him back to the hospital at midnight. This time they diagnosed him with meningitis.

“But by now it was too late. My boy died because of the doctors’ negligence.”

On Tuesday, the family accepted condolences from members of their expatriate community from Elbistan, in southern Turkey. Armağan Denli’s funeral was held at the Alevi Cultural Centre in Dalston on Wednesday.

UPDATE: North Middlesex Hospital has sent Londra Gazete a statement on Armağan’s death
