Turkish Student Union of UK UK (Britanya Türk Öğrenciler Birliği) gathered together to protest the British mainstream media’s coverages on the failed coup attempt in Turkey.

As a charity that relies upon gathering Turkish students in the UK together, TUSU organised a demonstration to protest the mainstream media in the UK. Getting on with their protests, students first showed up before the Guardian’s building following the BBC, the Economist and Independent.

Showing signs stating “Dear BBC – How much are you paid to lie, we know your lies through the past Egypt Coup” and “Choose well – are you imperialist spies or journalists?” and “Guardian of the coup”, students marched from the BBC building to other companies’ buildings.

Reading the press release both in Turkish and English, a spokesperson said “Western media is deflecting what’s been really happening in Turkey. Showing the taken precautions to prevent another possible coup attempt as a so-called authoritarian act. We condemn this deflected way of reporting”.

TUSU president Hüseyin Duran, said “We are here to stand next to our friends who are studying abroad and to stand beside our friends”.

The demonstration ended by the Turkish Embassy, with students carrying on protesting chanting “One government, one nation, one country”.
