TORTURE

A former MI5 officer has said he will give evidence to reveal that the security service had knowledge of torture practices, carried out largely in Guantanamo Bay by US guards and the CIA.

The report revealed on the Front page of the Sunday Times that the ex-officer is willing to “break ranks,” and give evidence about the torture of two in-mates during the month of December 2002 at Camp-Xray and Camp Delta.

It is claimed that the details include British officials witnessing inmates being tortured, chained, hooded, waterboarded and subjected to mental abuse, mainly by CIA officials – these ‘details’ were enclosed during meetings held in the London Headquarters of the MI5.

U.S Congress’ scandalous 2014 report, which did not include large amounts of information, sealed by the U.S government, with the signature of the President, Barrack Obama, included details of sexual threats, torture and other violent and torturous methods to interrogate terrorism suspects, post September 11th, 2001, twin tower attacks in New York.

A British Inmate, Shaker Aamer, had previously claimed to have been tortured by American officials.

He told RT News the following: “There was a great deal of discomfort within MI5 around the 2002 period that the agency was receiving intelligence obtained via either torture or severe abuse,” one intelligence source told the Sunday Times.

The view among many officers, although it was by no mean unanimous, was that Britain should have nothing to do with intelligence obtained by torture or abuse — call it what you will.

Since its opening in 2002, Guantanamo bey has been the target of huge criticism from human rights organisations, charities, officials and even, at one point, President Barrack Obama, who had once promised to close the prison for good.
