London Movie Festival: Bringing Film Enthusiasts Together

The London Movie Festival, hosted by the UK Alevi Cultural Centre and Cemevi (İAKM-Cemevi), will commence on April 26, bringing together cinema enthusiasts. The festival, running until April 28, features six films and four panel discussions, including a short film competition. The opening ceremony will begin on Friday, April 26, at 2:30 PM, followed by short film screenings and an award ceremony.

Organized by cinema actor and fight choreography expert Ali la Pax, with contributions from Film-Yon (Istanbul), the festival will start with the screening of ‘Kaf Kaf,’ directed by Metin Dağ. The film portrays the destructive effects of the earthquake that occurred on the morning of August 19, 1966. Following the screening, director İlham Bakır will host a panel titled ‘Kurdish Cinema and Representation,’ followed by the documentary ‘The Legend of Yaşar Kemal,’ directed by Aydın Orak.

On the second day, the festival will kick off with the panel ‘The Impact of Music in Cinema’ by academician and musician Nazım Çınar, followed by the film ‘Siyah Karga’ directed by Tayfur Aydın, depicting the story of an Iranian actor living in France. Subsequently, director Reis Çelik will lead a panel on ‘Political Cinema,’ followed by the screening of ‘Ah Yalan Dünya,’ a documentary directed by Atalay Taşdiken about the life and struggles of Neşet Ertaş.

The final day of the festival on April 28 will begin with the panel ‘Alevism and Representations in Cinema’ by academician Rıza Oylum, followed by the screening of ‘Lal Gece,’ directed by Reis Çelik. The concluding film will be ‘Mavi Gözlü Dev,’ directed by Biket İlhan, depicting the life of the renowned poet Nazım Hikmet. According to festival organizers, “A discussion will be held with the audience after each film screening and panel.
