TRNC announces no quarantine for fully vaccinated travellers

Fully vaccinated travellers will be able to travel to the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) without having to quarantine from June 10.

TRNC Prime Minister Ersan Saner announced those who have had both their vaccine shots that travel to the TRNC will not be required to quarantine as of June 10, providing that they have a negative PCR done before arriving and once you arrive.

He also noted that a QR code will also be needed for those travellers that are not required to quarantine.

Saner went onto say that the TRNC will be moving South Cyprus from their red list to the amber list tomorrow once this is done they would be opening a border crossing.

What happens when you return to the UK?

Currently, travellers from TRNC will be classed as a red list country when entering the UK.

This means an 11-day paid for government monitored hotel quarantine stay upon arrival.

As of Wednesday 12 May, 4 am Turkey was added to the ‘Red List’ which means travel is banned and you will only be allowed to enter the UK if you are a British or Irish National, or you have residence rights in the UK.

The UK will be reviewing the travel lists every 3 weeks.

Travelling from TRNC transit via Turkey, which requires passengers to exit the plane for passport and security checks within the airport will be classed as having entered Turkey within the last 10 days.

A spokeswoman from the Department of Transport confirmed to Londra Gazete that any travellers could be subject to the travel ban when transiting via Turkey or any of the ‘Red List’ countries.

Saying “A transit stop is a stop where passengers can get on or off the same part of the transport in which you are travelling. It can apply to ships, trains or flights. Your ticket should show if a stop is a transit stop.

The rules of a country or territory that you make a transit stop in could apply if:

  • new passengers get on and are able to mix with you
  • you or other passengers get off the transport you are on and mix with other people, then get on again

Making a transit stop would not affect what you have to do on arrival in England if, during the stop:

  • no new passengers, who are able to mix with you, get on
  • no-one on-board gets off and mixes with people outside
  • passengers get off but do not get back on”

This means if you get off the plane or a new passenger joins the flight at the transit stop in a red-listed country, you will be subjected to the travel ban.

Booking the 11 day hotel quarantine will also include the 2 PCR tests take on day 2 and 8.

A single adult is looking at a fee of £1,750, while for children aged 11+ it is £650 and for children aged 5-11 it is £325.

Travelling across the island for tourism or travel reasons has not been permitted. If this is lifted and travellers are allowed to cross the border and travel back to UK via the South of Cyprus, this would be classed as entry from the amber list.

Anyone entering from an amber list would be required to have a PCR test done before departure, a 10 day home quarantine and 2 more PCR tests on day 2 and 8.
