YUNUS Emre Institute in London we’re delighted to present the eighth Young Scholar Seminar series: ‘Cultures of Cultural Diplomacy: Engaging with the Concept’

The series continues with Firdevs Bulut, a PhD student at University College London, European Studies department. The seminar took place on Thursday 22nd February 2018 where she was able to explain the various meanings of cultural diplomacy and how cultural institutions relate to these meanings especially in the post-1990 period.

Bulut introduced to the audience the meaning of cultural diplomacy and its concept that was so popular and emotionally-revoking at one time and it is now expired and lost in the pages of history. Bulut also added her own personal views about the subject and even today she is still trying to discover the relationship between cultural diplomacy and the emotions that its institutionalization invokes. She believes that the sublime feeling that we experience when we look at an art or architecture work, should have a more permanent role in our lives than just a momentary one. She completed her presentation by giving examples from Turkish soap operas that are popular and broadcasted in the Arab world and its huge impact.
