Emirhan Yorulmazlar has been announced as Turkey’s new consul-general to London.
Mr Yorulmazlar, who was formerly a political counsellor at Turkey’s embassy in Washington DC, has also been deputy special advisor and deputy chief of staff to foreign minister Ahmet Davutoğlu, and has served in Tehran.
He replaces Ahmet Demirok, who was made his country’s ambassador to Qatar in July last year.
The move is Turkey’s second prominent diplomatic appointment in the UK since the New Year, after it was announced last month that ambassador Ünal Çeviköz would be replaced by Abdurrahman Bilgiç.
Mr Bilgiç, 50, was his country’s consul-general in Munich between 2005 and 2007. He spent a short stint as ambassador in Tokyo in 2011 before being recalled to take up his current role at MIT.
