Thousands of people are enjoying summer activities in Finsbury Park, following the round-the-clock clear up operation that saw crews working to restore the park after Wireless Festival.

The park is now fully open, with scores of people enjoying the children’s playground, tennis courts, large grass areas and school sports day events. More than 100,000 people attended Wireless Festival – the country’s largest urban music festival – between July 8 and 10, with only a small number of incidents. The festival saw dozens of grime and urban acts take to the stage, including headliners The 1975, Chase and Status and North London talent Boy Better Know who closed the festival.

The number of complaints to the festival’s hotline fell by nearly half, with 60 this year compared to 117 last year.  Damaged grass has been reseeded and is expected to grow back over the coming weeks and small sections of road are being resurfaced in places.  The event raised £2,200 for local Mental health charity Mind in Haringey who offered free massages and gave out wristbands to festival goers. Events such as Wireless last year funded around £400,000 worth of upgrades in Finsbury Park, including the refurbished ball courts and brighter, safer path lighting in the track and gym area.

Haringey Council Cabinet Member for Environment Cllr Peray Ahmet said:  “It’s great to see so many people enjoying Finsbury Park in the summer sunshine – from Wireless Festival to the new ball courts. “Events like Wireless bring in hundreds of thousands of pounds of income for Haringey, which fund high quality park facilities for residents to enjoy all year round.”
