Around 300 people staged a march against violent crime last weekend.

Crowds gathered outside the Florence Hayes playground, Fore Street, on Saturday, June 4, to demonstrate against knife and gun attacks which have claimed the lives of a number of young people in Edmonton in the last few years.

The march, held in partnership with the Metropolitan Police and St. John’s Ambulance service, as well as a number of youth organisation, gained in size and momentum with onlookers joining as it headed towards Edmonton Green.

It culminated at Latimer All Saints School, where workshops and seminars were hosted on the dangers and consequences of crime.

March organiser Dr. Pat Agdomar said: “The community response was positive and reassuring in regards to what we set out to do and it left a good atmosphere in the local community.

“Young people were telling me that they want to turn away from this violent lifestyle and help their friends to do so also.  The march served as a one-to-one communication with local people, and people of all faiths were brought out onto the streets to participate.

“The police with whom we worked together in partnership were truly professional and inspiring”.
