Daymer had its 18th congress in Tottenham, Bruce Grove, North London, in the North London Community Centre.
Beginning at 1pm, the gathering attracted many from the community – members, general public, members of other organisations a-like.
Speakers included: Paul Mitchell from TUSC; Isai Priya from Tamil Solidarity Group;Stop the war coalition’s Chris Ningham; Weyman Bennet from United against fascism (UAF).
“[Day-Mer are very organized and very effective…[…]…together, we can organize to prevent fascism, racism and classism],” said Weyman Bennet of UAF
Generally, members did not have much to add or subtract from the current – the direction of the organization.
Day-Mer, as a left-wing organization, operates with almost total inclusion of it members, especially when decisions of high importance; and it has been central in constructing the appropriate bridges to hold together the Kurdish and Turkish left – and the community.
Votes were cast to elect the governance of the organization (Names include: Arif Bektas, Asli Gul, Gungor Kus, Metin Sagir, Oktay Cinpolat, Oktay Sahbaz, Selvi Ozdemir); Members also voted for the new team of Auditors, including: Feyzullah Cinpolat, Bahattin Yadirgi, Ali Olmez and Cagdas Can Polat.
Results of the elections are yet to be announced; however, the governing body is more than likely expected to stay the same.
