TURKISH CONSUL FOR London Abdurrahman Bilgiç and London Consulate Orçun Başaran has visited the Alevi Culture Centre and Cemevi in Dalston as the month of Asure continues.
The visit also saw head of Cemevi Tugay Hürman and the other member of the directory present. A warm conversation took place at the London Alevi Cultural Centre and Cemevi, which measures at 2850 m2 in Wood Green, North London. It is said to be the biggest Cemevi in Europe, details and building of the construction was passed onto Abdurrahman Bilgiç.
Head of Cemevi Hürman explained that despite it being the biggest Cemevi in Europe, the building still isn’t big enough. As one side prepares for a funeral, the other side has 600 pupils learning- this just isn’t suitable he explained and a new additional building should be built. “When the new building is built we want to make sure the education is at a higher and more academic level and it is very important that the building is complete in order for Cemevi students to receive better education and learning.” said Hürman
Orçun Başaran, explained that the new building and it’s capacity could also encourage young people and children to want to be part of the learning there.
“I WANT TO BE THE OPENING OF CEMEVI”
Bilgiç, while doing his duty in Munich, did the opening of the Cemevi there, he explained that there have been no consuls or ambassadors at any opening of Cemevi before. “I want to be the first to do this. It would be a pleasure to be at the opening of this Cemevi in Wood Green, once the ongoing construction is complete.
“OUR COMMUNITY IS IN BRITAIN’S POLITICS”
Türkçe konuşan toplumdan artık siyasetçilerin çıktığını belirten Bilgiç also underlined the fact that there are now members of the Turkish Community who are becoming politicians, they are becoming candidate members for the council, head of councils and even MPs, this is a very good achievement. He continued by saying: “We should now be seeing members of our community in parliament as MPs, as Head of Party’s, with the status of a Lord. We have this base. As long actions are made together. From member of the council, they can slowly progress towards becoming an MP or head of a party. We see this in other ethnic communities- Bangladeshi, Indonesian and Pakistani, we can have it too.”
“WE WANT TO SEE PEACE IN OUR OWN COUNTRY TOO”
Head of Cemevi Hürman also spoke of the Turkey and the Alevi community. He said: “We want to see the same democratic environment and united peace in Turkey too. I would also like to see the Turkish speaking politicians in Britain to represent the community in England’s political arena, this is a wish from Cemevi as well.”
During the talks General Consul Bilgiç Müsteşar Başaran, accepted the complimentary ashure made for them in the early hours of the morning by members of the Cemevi.
