Three hundred people broke their fast following the first day of Ramadan at the Süleymaniye Mosque in North London.
The guests were served soup, kebabs, rice, salad, humus and other hor d’oeuvres at the event, which was attended by a range of people including families with children, primary and secondary school students and those attending university.
Akif Çulhaoğlu, the director-general of Süleymaniye Mosque and its associated cultural centre, said their iftar meals would be served every night thanks to the generous contributions of benefactors.
He continued: “The costs of these iftars will be met by local traders and companies through sponsorship. Our iftar table is open to everyone.
“We are experiencing the joy of continuing our now-traditional process of providing nightly iftar meals during this Ramadan as well. These mass iftar meals strengthen our sense of unity and togetherness, and allow us to host people who are truly in need, who cannot make it home in time for iftar, or who live alone.
“Any benefactor can contributed to this programme. With this, I hope that the month of Ramadan brings peace, comfort and solidarity to our nation, our country and all humanity.”
The iftar ended with prayers from Batuhan Dinç.
The Süleymaniye Mosque in Dalston has been offering mass iftar meals to Muslims in North London and beyond for the last 16 years.
