London’s travel agents have denied claims that they have finally received a compensation pay-out for unfulfilled Cyprus Turkish Airlines tickets.
The Turkish Cypriot national carrier, known by its initials KTHY, abruptly stop flying in June 2010 and declared bankruptcy later that year.

Hundreds of ticket holders were unable to travel and never received a refund, despite a pledge by the Turkish Cypriot government to cover their costs..
But recent rumours that the government had finally made a payment to travel agencies has prompted officials to deny such action had taken.
Diplomat Travel’s director Özkul Beyzade said they had received requests for refunds from a number of customers in recent days and said: “We don’t know where this has come from. We are in touch with the Turkish Cypriot government for what is owed to us but we have not yet received any viable information.
“Just like the passengers, we have been hurt by this. No-one should be concerned about information: as soon as we have it, we will share it.”
Tulip Holidays director Kadri Sökmen also confirmed they were in contact with Turkish Cypriot authorities for the £272,000 they were owed.
“We were told they might make us a £198,000 payment, but there has been no progress since. We expect the government of the TRNC to resolve this problem in some way or another,” he said.
Officials from the Turkish Cypriot representative’s office in London confirmed that, as far as they were concerned, there was no new information on refunds to KTHY victims.
