The sudden death of Demek Akçiçek, a Turkish teacher living in England, is been mourned by members of the community.
Known and loved by the Turkish-speaking community living in London, the young teacher’s passing following a heart attack was announced on social media.
The news was shared on the Alevi Cultural Center and Cemevi UK, where Demek worked as a teacher for many years. The post shared said: “Dear souls, we are deeply saddened by the sudden loss of our dear Demet Akçiçek, who has been teaching in our institution for a long time. We wish her family and loved one’s patience.”
The British Alevi Federation shared a social media post saying: ”I am a Woman. I am a woman, not as you want, but as I want! (Frida Kahlo) and as she puts it, she is a woman in love with freedom as she wants. We are deeply sadned by the untimely lose of our Demet Akçiçek. She worked as a teacher in our institutions for a long time, and her efforts will be accepted by the right. We wish patience to her family and loved ones.”
