In memory of soldiers and firefighters in Tottenham hundreds of students gathered alongside councillors, cadets and brigades at 11am on Tuesday in front of one of The Name Liveth Forever More memorial.

The event was designed within The Garden of Remembrance and was enough that those who had fallen would have been very pleased.

Opening with Councillor Shelia Peacock as the presenter, a compassionate feeling engulfed the crowd as she spoke about the Second World War and the still fresh history of the event given. She gave thanks to all who attended happily ending her speech saying, “we are hoping to continue this every year from now on”.

Also present at the ceremony were several cadets such as Tony Flint, who served 31 years as a combat medic of the First Gulf War in which he aided wounded soldiers on the field.

Standing alongside him, his brother Walter Flint said he himself served for four years and did training in the Scottish town of Portlethen. Although both are now retired, they were in uniform for the day; they also spoke about their father who served in the Second World War and were carrying pictures of him in uniform.

Despite the bitter cold, Father Roy Pearson of All Hallows Church said a prayer for those who had fallen. Next, Alex Bennett of the 133rd London Boys Brigade led a flag formation along with Shane Denny, representing The Little Flam Cadets.

Mr Denny raised and lowered the flags along with other cadets to honour and show respect to soldiers of the war.

A moment of silence was held towards the end, followed by “One More Step”, sung by a selection of students from Bruce Grove, Mulberry, Devonshire and Lancasterian schools in Haringey. These were among the primary and secondary schools that had also built monuments for soldiers at their local school grounds.
