Kemal Güneş, 40, a hairdresser in Ireland, went to Istanbul for a series of plastic surgeries. Güneş lost his life during the liposuction surgery he underwent after the hair transplant. 14 people, including 3 doctors, participated in the surgery.
Married and father of 3 children travelled to Istanbul for hair transplant, rhinoplasty and liposuction surgeries with a medical centre in Şişli. It said that after a hair transplant, he underwent liposuction at around 1 pm local time on Saturday. During the operation, he fell ill and his heart stopped. Güneş, who was brought back to life with the intervention of the surgical team, was taken to a private hospital by an ambulance called to the centre, and his heart stopped again on the way.
Güneş, who could not be revived despite all the efforts made in the private hospital, passed away. Private hospital officials called the police and reported the incident. While the prosecutor’s office launched an investigation on the charge of “reckless killing”, the police took statements from 14 people as suspects and witnesses, including doctors AMU (38), SC (55) and anesthesiologist DB (48), who allegedly participated in the operation.
It is alleged Güneş did not want to have other aesthetic surgeries after hair transplant, but was persuaded at the medical centre and underwent surgery. In his statement to the police, the doctor DB, who was alleged to have administered anesthesia to Güneş, alleged that he had not undergone the operation, had not seen the patient, and was not even in the medical centre at that time, although his name was on the operation list.
After Güneş’s death, his family rushed to Istanbul from Ireland. Güneş, whose family took his body after the examination at the Forensic Medicine Institute, buried him in their hometown Tunceli. It was reported that the family complained about the medical team participating in the surgery, and the police investigation into the incident continues.
