Turkish Consulate-backed event at Finsbury Park attracts participants from across the community
DOZENS of Turkish people took part in a “Healthy Walking” event at Finsbury Park last weekend.
The event, organised by the Turkish Consulate in London, was held to encourage members of the UK’s Turkish-speaking communities to maintain a healthier lifestyle.
Officials said the walk was also an opportunity for community members to meet one another.
Aside from Turkey’s consul general Emirahn Yorulmazlar, those taking part included Dr Ali Demirbağ, head of the UK-Turkey Medical Workers Union, and associated directors; Dr Utkan Alacakanat; Turkish Forum UK director Zeren Safa and forum deputy leader Nazif Akpınar; Necmi Akçay, of the Expatriate Turks Consultancy BoARD; and president of the Turkish Women’s Association in the UK, Maviş Fuchs.
Participants who arrived at the park’s Manor House entrance were given white T-shirts carrying the Turkish flag. At the end of the one-hour walk, participants were each given certificates, signed by Mr Yorulmazlar, that thanked them for taking part in the “Healthy Community Walk”.
Mr Yorulmazlar said: “This event held in London’s open air brought together citizens from all segments of our community. I hope to meet again in future events and thank you all.”
