RECENTLY, the increasing rates of crime have caused many families to be worried and unsafe in London. Kidnappings, murders, drugs and crime rates in certain parts of London have increased considerably.

This week we asked members of the public if they feel safe in London and a majority of the answers we received stated that they do not feel safe in London.

ÜLKÜ DEMİREL

“I think the danger is not only in London but everywhere else in the world. The biggest responsibility in this regard falls on families. I think we should take the necessary precautions. The increase in crimes rates depends on education. Especially children in our society should be sent to Turkish schools. It’s very important for children to be educated culturally and morally.”

OĞULCAN ÜLKER

“Almost every day in London we witness crimes, especially those involving young people. I think it is necessary to investigate why their young people are involved in such gangs or groups and we must find a solution for them. There are too many immigrant families in London and most of them live in financial difficulties. This is the economic side of the increasing crime rates. Alternatively, the other side is educational. Job opportunities and young people should somehow be integrated with society.”

SARYA TUNÇ

“I imagined London as a safer place before moving from Turkey, however, I saw that this wasn’t the case. There are some factors whereby London is more comfortable in comparison to Turkey, its more comfortable women are freer from restrictions for instance. But the increasing crimes in London has caused us to be worry and don’t feel safe in London anymore.”

NADİDE KÖROĞLU

“Of course in London, we do not feel safe. We are especially worried about our children. We send our children to school but we can’t be sure if they are safe. Knife crimes, in particular, have recently increased and this incredibly worries families. The police need to take precautions also the school administrations should take measures in this regard too.”

AHMET HASAN

“Our hope is our young generation. Those young people who are more social are unlikely to commit a crime. That is why my advice to young people is to be more involved in projects which will make allow them to be more responsible and united with the community.”

İSMAİL İNCEDAL

“We do not feel safe in London at all, we are worried for our family and children. I think one of the biggest problems is integration. I believe that is very difficult for young people to merge together especially those from different ethnic backgrounds. The most important solution for crime rates is education thus, the government should solve this with the police and education administrators.”

AYSEL OLDAÇ

“I have been in this country for 33 years. Crime rates are increasing day by day, therefore, families must take further action. I have noticed that families are moving out of London. They want to move to quieter areas. I suspect that this is because those areas are calm and their crime rates are low.”

  1. Sabite ozan says:

I used to feel safe but not anymore. Unfortunately along with the tourism, crime is also on the rise. Knife crime is on the rise across london. Gun crime has gone up. There have been “random” attacks late evening and night. Theft crime increased. And moped gangs has been trade since 2014. These people operate even daylight. But seriously, most Londoners live a harmonious life and we all like to get on with our life.
