HULUS Ibrahim, known for his commitment towards the common struggle of the Turkish and Greek Cypriot workers during the British colonialism, and extremely appreciated for his contributions to PEO and the Turkish Labour Federation.
An event was organised in appreciation for Hulus Ibrahim’s dedication to the common struggle of Cyprus.
The day of appreciation for Hulus Ibrahim took place under the name of, “We are meeting with Hulus Ibrahim, to appreciate his dedication to the struggle of peace, freedom, and labour.”
The appreciation day was organised with the collaboration of the Cypriot Artists Platform (UK), Haringey Cypriot Centre, Hackney Cypriot Association, Turkish Cypriot Association for Democracy, AKEL (UK) Turkish Cypriot Community Association and CTP (UK).
Hulus Ibrahim and his family attended the event which took place on Saturday, January 6, at the Turkish Cypriot Community Centre.
The greeting speech of the event was made in Turkish and English by members of the Cypriot Artists Platform, Aycan Saraçoğlu, and Ertanç Hidayetin. They claimed Hulus Ibrahim will continue to shed light on the peace, democracy and labour struggle in Cyprus and England.
A moment of silence was held for the Cypriot socialist Hasan Raif who passed away on the 31 December 2017.
After a moment of silence, Hulus Ibrahim was invited to make a short speech. He began his speech by expressing his sadness for Hasan Raif’s death, “I am very sorry for the loss of my dear friend Hasan Raif, I wished that this relentless illness would not have taken him away from us so early.”
Hulus Ibrahim summarised his commitment to the struggle of peace, democracy and workers’ rights over the course of his life and conveyed his appreciation to everyone who organised and participated in the event.

Özbarış addressed Hulus Ibrahim as a significant Cypriot socialist and presented plaques of appreciation for his struggle for Cyprus.
A short slideshow emerged from Hulus Ibrahim’s youth photos was presented and at the end of the evening, Hamza Irkad and Mehmet Raif performed a short music concert.
