The annual Day-Mer Culture and Arts festival saw an exclusive panel discussion, joined by famous Turkish actor Mehmet Ali Alabora, author Aydın Çubukçu and academician Prodessor Naif Bezwan.

The annual Day-Mer Culture and Arts festival saw an exclusive panel discussion, joined by famous Turkish actor Mehmet Ali Alabora, author Aydın Çubukçu and academician Prodessor Naif Bezwan.

Moderated by Suat Eroğlu, the event attracted a number of 200 guests listening to the panel. When asked about the outcomes and the process of artists of Turkey being rebels, Mr Çubukçu said that artists in every culture and country are significant due to their skills in observation and recording what’s happening.

Mr Çubukçu, furthered his speech as follows:

“To see and to understand is utterly crucial. But a wise person and an artist should be able to reflect upon what they see and experience find the words and tools to Express and let the society know about it.

“We have to be on every side of opposition to make our voices heard.”

Famous actor Mehmet Ali Alabora, also shared his experiences upon his moving to the UK. Mr Alabora stated that the importance and significance of artists when it comes to talk about the freedom of speech in Turkey.

“No matter what happened in Turkey in the past and no matter how much repression that was inflicted on people, the artists and wise people of Turkey has always been on the frontlines fort he fight of democracy even if in the end they had to flee their countries.”

Tackling the “Justice March”, Mr Alabora also said “Demonstration is demonstration and it should be supported.”

Approx. 300 people attended the event alongside having the chance of asking questions in the end.
