A new Turkish Community Centre started its activities this week to offer services to the community living in and around Devon in the South West of England. The building, which was first built as a village school in 1850, and later operated as a church now starts a new journey as a community centre.

The President of the UK Diyanet Foundation Ensari Yenturk, Bristol City Council Member Metin Sen, and members of the Turkish community from different parts of Devon attended the opening of the new Cultural Centre.

The opening of the Devon Turkish Community Centre was held on November 18, first Friday Prayer was given, followed by a speech from Yenturk who wished the centre good luck.

In a statement, the Devon Turkish Community Centre President Yaşar Oflaz said “As the Turkish Community living in Devon and its surroundings, we are happy to have turned our social activities, which we have been doing for years, through this building and we thank our state and our nation for their financial and moral support at the end of these efforts.”

Adding “Dear friends, the efforts of our elders and friends, who have been trying for years to open this centre… will continue our efforts for our new generations without giving up or falling down, following the motto “We need horses running even after the race is gone”. May this centre be a source of blessings, inshallah.”

The new centre is located at 44 Main Road, Pinhoe, Exeter, Devon, UK, EX4 8HS for more information you follow their social media account or email devonturkishcommunity@gmail.com.
