THE NEW Turkish consul-general to London, Emirhan Yorulmazlar, has released a message to mark 8 March World Women’s Day.
In his message he said: “I want to underline the importance of women to both our community in Britain and to our home country. They are the basic cornerstone of our objective of a healthy, educated, self-confident and developed community.
“Women have a defining role in the Turkish community of Britain attaining the stature it deserves, for strengthening family ties and for educating our youth.”
He continued: “I would like everyone to know that I attach great importance to the more active participation of women in political, economic and cultural life, and would happily support initiatives towards this objective.
“On this important day, I send my greetings and deepest respect to women with the words of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk: ‘in our opinion, women in the Republic of Turkey are a high-standing, honourable existence, esteemed above all else, as they have been throughout all of Turkish history.’
