The Mayor of Hackney, Philip Glanville, will be showing his support this week by attending the launch event of new social enterprise Find A Balance on the 11th November at 5pm in Hackney’s Print House Gallery.  Find A Balance offers a bespoke service and support to individuals and families who have suffered with mental health issues specifically in the black, ethnic minority communities (BAME). This new and exciting social enterprise, Find A Balance will be hosting their event to highlight the increase of young BAMEs with mental health problems.  Find A Balance works to address specific psychological and cultural issues that black, ethnic minority communities are most likely to face in the UK.

Samantha Francis, founder of Find a Balance says, “My inspiration and passion to work with the affected black and ethnic minority community comes from my own personal experience of supporting my son back to stable mental health.  I quickly realized that whilst I respect the current service for mental health sufferers, it wasn’t sufficient for those within ethnic communities and therefore you can see why such individuals get lost in the system and end up in mental health homes making up a large disproportionate percentage of patients”.

Also in attendance will be Psychiatrist Dr Tele Amuludun who will be able to offer expertise on the psychological issues young black men and women face and how this should be addressed differently than the standard approach.  There will also be a photographic exhibition, video presentation, talks by motivational speakers and activities for all to participate in to help raise awareness.
