Turkish and Kurdish Community Centre Day-Mer, led a demonstration against the coup attempt, with slogans “No to racism, coups and done man dictatorship”.
The demonstration was joined by many Britons as well, who also brought up increasing issues on racism after the Brexit vote in the UK. Tackling the attempted coup in Turkey, Day-Mer published a written statement saying: “The fight between advantaged groups in Turkey still resumes. Erdogan’s regime, has unfortunately drove everyone into a war. Whilst the corruption and lack of human rights still stand for being a tremendous threat to democracy and peace. The conflict within the army and Erdogan’s strives to change the military forces has brought us to these days. Turkey has göne through coups before and usually, people who suffered with the consequences after these coups were always Kurdish, socialists, Alevis and labourers. We support democracy and not a one man regime that would never be for the sake of communities.”
