Organised by the Centre for Kurdish Progress, invited Evar İbrahim who is the Kurdistan Regional Administration Ambassador. İbrahim, who has undertaken Women’s Committee Presidency and Community Committee Presidency position at the Iraq Parliament, gave a speech on Yezidi women’s agony over ISIS’ harassments for the past 2 years. Speaking at the Unite NGO building, İbrahim said Kurdish people are the biggest allies for fighting against the ISIS and stated this situation should be protected.
Evar İbrahim tackled topics on the events in Kurdistan (Iraq) especially on En-Anfal campaign, which also known as the “Kurdish Genocide” which led Arab forces to gain power over Kurds and start a series of discrimination with the typical “Sunni” and “Şii” segregation. İbrahim said just until 2 years ago people from different backgrounds and religions would live happily all together in Şengal areas until ISIS started their reign over on the territories.
İbrahim remarked the worrying agenda with the Yezidi women and their lives as they would be kidnapped and would be used for prostitution reasons. Stating that there are still 2800 women are lost, these women’s situations are yet to be known. İbrahim said “Due to the fact that almost every relative (especially men) of these women have been killed, Yezidi women have nowhere to go or shelter in”.
Continuing her speech by saying there are two significant steps to be taken, İbrahim said it should be a priority to save these women from ISIS and provide them the sufficient level of mental and psychological support afterwards. İbrahim finished her statements by stating the Northern Iraq’s forces are getting stronger and therefore ISIS is losing its efficacy, and this should increase to save the kidnapped people.
