The 17th film festival of London has now started to deliver what’s good on the movie agenda.

Curated by famous Turkish director Tolga Karaçelik, 5 different Turkish films will be shown at the festival along with Kurdish director Bahman Ghobadi’s latest film “A Flag Without Country”. Worldwide known Iranian Kurdish director Bahman Ghobadi’s latest film, takes place in the refugee camps based in southern shores of Kurdistan and Rojava border. The film will be shown on 29 June Wednesday at the Shoreditch Rich Mic theatre at 8.30 pm.

Each year the festival hands out awards on the festival’s closing night. These include:

  • Best UK Short Film
  • Best UK First Feature
  • Best International First Feature
  • Best Documentary Feature
  • Short Film Audience Award

East End also will be continuing the traditional competition amongst the best directors, meaning that the winning director will be bringing a compilation of his country’s films for the next year’s festival. Tolga Karaçelik, who won the best director prize last year will be bringing his selected 5 Turkish films this year. Karaçelik, regarding the event says “The one thing I love about the directors from Turkey is that everyone creates something special for themselves, all of them speaks for them, here is only a solid compilation of rich film selection, and I enjoy it to the fullest.”

Amongst Karaçelik’s curated films, there will be Can Evrenol’s film “Baskın”, Tolda Karaçelik’s”Gişe Memuru”, Senem Tüzün’s Ana Yurdu, Emin Alper’s Abluka and Zeynep Dadak’s Mavi Dalga which is also co-directed by Merve Kayan.
