Britain Alevi Federation came together in its 2nd annual congress; Israfil Erbil re-elected as president of the federation; Savas Hurman, Zeynep Demir, Haydar Ulus, Huseyin uzum, Maksut Demir, Kenan Eziktas, Huseying Gazi Metin Dede, researcher-writer Turan Eser now make up the board of directors.
The federations ‘belief’ branch Mehmet Yuksel Dede, BAF president Israfil Erbil met with Labour Party’s Joan Ryan, Kate Osamor, David Lammy and BAF’s youth organiser Ergin Erbil at London Parliament on 4th February, 2016.
Generally, Alevis who live in Turkey and Europe became the centre point of discussion.
Labour party’s Joan Ryan informed the guests about the work she – among others – has been doing for the Alevi community – as an representative of the Alevi community – in parliament.
J.Ryan has said she has written a letter to the Maras senator asking to remove all barriers blocking the rights of Alevi people – mentioning the 32th anniversary of the Maras Alevi massacre.
“Alevis who have held their heads down for the past few centuries must hold their heads up high…[…]…the Alevi community needs to be introduced inside the parliament as well as among the general public,” she said.
In parliament, every month a 90- minute session will be held on addressing ‘Alevi issues’. Also, in the entrance of Parliament “Alevi introduction days” will be held – stands for three days where visitors, mps and officials can approach for information.
