TWO TURKISH contestants are among the favorites to win Britain’s most watched singing competition, ITV’s The X-Factor, this year.
Contestants Ebru Gursoy, who is originally from Bursa and Havva Sonmez Rebke, who is Turkish Cypriot and the daughter of singer Ali Babutsa, both received four easy yes’s from the X-Factor judges in their auditions.
Havva, who is just 21-years-old was recognised by Rita Ora, who remembered her auditioning back in 2012 when she was a guest judge. Walking on stage for her audition Havva says: “Oh my God, I’m going to faint..!” She describes her love for singing before auditioning and says: “I love singing, it’s all I do, I walk around Tesco singing..” In 2012, Havva got to boot camp and ‘nerves got the better of her’ she says. This time round all four judges said yes. Simon Cowell said her audition was “a great one” and loves the fact she sounds so British.
Ebru Gursoy, who is 27- years-old, a freelance singer and student also wowed the judges with her auditions singing “What I did for love..” and the audience who applauded her with a standing ovation. “Ebruuu, wow!” were Rita Ora’s words. Ebru was described as having ‘star quality’ by judge Cheryl.
