The Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus’s (TRNC) Prime Minister Ünal Üstel on Thursday highlighted the historical struggle, identity, and unbreakable bond of Turkish Cypriots living in the UK.

Ustel was speaking during a visit to the UK where he came together with members of the Turkish Cypriot community in London in a event organised and sponsored by Londra Gazete, Euromed, Alton&Co, Best Motors Coachworks and UKAY Ltd.

Attending the event with his wife Zerrin Üstel, along with guests that included the a Turkish Ambassador to London Koray Osman Ertas and TNRC London Representative Çimen Keskin, business people, community organising and members young and old from across the Turkish Cypriot community.

In his speech, Prime Minister Ünal Üstel underscored the significant role Turkish Cypriots in the UK play as cultural ambassadors, bridging their heritage with the broader society.

He called for unity and solidarity, stating that the Turkish Cypriot community’s voice in international platforms could only grow stronger through collective efforts.

Reflecting on the shared history and values of Turkish Cypriots, Ustel remarked: “No matter where we live, at the heart of our identity lies the pride and honour of Cyprus. You are not only the children of our homeland but also its representatives to the world. Being a Turkish Cypriot means carrying the struggle, dignity, and values of a people.”

The PM celebrated the community’s ability to integrate into British society while preserving their identity, describing them as a vital bridge between cultures.

He praised their achievements in education, business, and politics and highlighted the responsibility of passing on the Turkish Cypriot heritage to the younger generations.

Prime Minister Ustel reaffirmed Türkiye’s unwavering support for the Turkish Cypriot people, particularly in their struggle for recognition and rights on the global stage.

“Türkiye has been our greatest supporter in our fight for existence, standing by us politically, economically, and militarily. The bond we share with Türkiye is not merely historical solidarity but an integral part of our national identity.”

He acknowledged Türkiye’s contributions to advancements in education, healthcare, and infrastructure in the TRNC, underscoring the importance of maintaining and strengthening this partnership.

Ustel encouraged the Turkish Cypriot diaspora to continue advocating for their rights and preserving their identity while building bridges with the communities they inhabit.

“You are the pride, voice, and reflection of the Turkish Cypriot people. Your contributions to culture, education, and economy elevate our collective dignity and amplify our presence on the international stage.”

During the event a moment was also taken by the sponsors and PM  share their condolences and remember those that tragically lost theirs lives in the fires at the Grand Kartal hotel in Bolu, Turkey earlier this week.

Tree Planting Event

The TRNC Prime Minister will also a special Memorial event in remember of the Şampiyon Melekler. The event will take place tomorrow (Saturday 25th, January) at 1pm at Trent Park. The event organised by Euromed is open to the public and the community members are welcome to join together on remembrance.
