Prof. Türkan Saylan was commemorated in London with a concert by young musicians İlyun Bürkev and Emre Engin. Held at St. James’s Paddington church, the event featured Bürkev on piano and Engin on viola, captivating the audience. Organizer Arzu Güler announced that part of the concert’s income would support the scholarship program of the Association for Supporting Contemporary Life, founded by Saylan.

Prof. Saylan, dedicated to education and modernization, was honoured on her birthday with this meaningful musical event. Award-winning viola artist Emre Engin, who continues his career in London, and 16-year-old pianist İlyun Bürkev delivered a stunning performance. The program opened with works by Vivaldi and Beethoven, followed by Liszt’s “Hungarian Rhapsody,” performed solo by Bürkev. The duo later played pieces by Massenet and Franck, and returned for an encore of the beloved folk song “Sarı Gelin” after receiving enthusiastic applause.

Arzu Güler highlighted that the concert marked Prof. Saylan’s birthday week, emphasizing its mission to support young musicians. She also announced another performance at the same venue on January 18, featuring viola player Ezo Dem Sarıcı and pianist Junyan Chen.

Sixteen-year-old İlyun Bürkev, currently studying at the Salzburg Mozarteum University, expressed joy at her London debut alongside Emre Engin. A student of renowned pianist Gülsin Onay, Bürkev is earning recognition for his early successes.

Emre Engin, 33, a student of violin virtuoso Pinchas Zukerman, holds prestigious awards, including the “Young Soloist of the Year” by the Istanbul Music Festival and the Yehudi Menuhin scholarship. He has performed internationally, appearing in the USA, Canada, Europe, and Israel. Engin, who also plays with the English National Opera orchestra, continues to make his mark on the global stage.

The evening honoured Prof. Saylan’s legacy, combining musical excellence with a cause she passionately championed: supporting education and young talent.
