Çağıl Akpınar, player of the Düzkaya Club of the Northern Cyprus Golf Federation, achieved significant success in the Junior Open Golf Tournament held in Blackburn, England. Competing among 53 talented golfers under the age of 18 in the tournament held at Pleasington Golf Course on August 14, 2024, Akpınar came first with a net of 62 strokes. Akpınar, who had a 3-stroke lead over her closest rival, did not lose the first place to anyone in this prestigious tournament.
In the tournament held in Stroke Play format, according to 95% of the Course Handicap and played over 18 holes, Jackson Shorrocks ranked second with Net 65 strokes, while Aaron Ball ranked third with Net 66 strokes. Sponsors of the tournament included world-famous Olympic Gold Medalist professional golfer Justin Rose and Britain’s respected media outlet The Telegraph. At the end of the tournament, the winners were presented with their awards by the organizers and officials.
Towards the Portuguese Finals
This great success of Çağıl Akpınar also earned her the right to participate in the finals to be held in Portugal. Northern Cyprus Golf Federation President Ali Ratip Doğruer stated that they were proud of Akpınar’s success and emphasized that the young golfer’s skills developed with the support of his family and the opportunities provided by the federation.
