Summer months, especially when schools in the UK are on half term, are times when the desire for Turkish Cypriot families to return to their homeland increases.
Travel during this period generally becomes a popular choice, and for Turkish-speaking community members in London, Cyprus is considered an attractive holiday destination with its warm weather and impressive beaches.
This week Londra Gazete took a look to see just how much a summer holiday flight is going to cost the average family looking to travel to Cyprus. We researched flight ticket prices London to Cyprus, looking at the most affordable prices available during the peak travel times in July and August.
ERCAN VS LARNACA
Throughout the summer, especially due to schools in the UK closing in mid-July and reopening in the first week of September, one of the periods when families travel intensively is the end of July and the end of August.
For example, when the departure date is set as July 31st and the return date as August 28th, the price for a flight from London to Ercan with Pegasus Airlines showed the most reasonable price at £683.99 pp, followed by Turkish Airlines at£706.89 and then Anadolujet £733.10pp.
When we calculated the prices for a four-person family for the selected round-trip dates (July 31st – August 28th), we found that these trips could set a family back. For instance, for a flight from London to Ercan with Pegasus Airlines, the price for four people is £2735.96, Turkish Airlines£2,827.56 and with Anadolujet, it is £2932.40.
Many travellers have for a number of year now travel via Lananca to North Cyprus, finding that tickets and transport work out economical better for them.
During the same period, the flight from London to Larnaca with EasyJet was £654.94pp, Wizz Air came to £720pp and British Airways at £936.99pp. For a family of four it came out with EasyJet at £2619.76, WizzAir coming to £2880 and British airways at £3,747.96.
Prices are based on searches carried out on March 10 2024, prices above include luggage but maybe subjected to extra fees such as seating, taxes or booking.
It is important for families planning to travel to consider these high prices. Considering not only flight tickets but also accommodation, meals, and other travel expenses, careful planning of the holiday budget may be necessary.
TRNC Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Tourism, Culture, Youth and Environment, Fikri Ataoğlu, made important statements regarding flight ticket prices from the rostrum of the Assembly last month.
Ataoğlu stated that they are making serious efforts on flight ticket prices, stating that wide-body aircraft are being entered into the system by Turkish Airlines every day, and additional flights are also about to be launched. Ataoğlu mentioned that on the Istanbul route, the prices of tickets are below the price they have in mind. Deputy Prime Minister Ataoğlu stated that if the new airport can bring passengers who have had security certification studies within 5-6 months “without getting off the plane”, facilities will be provided for the arrival of predominantly UK citizens to their homeland.
SPAIN VS CYPRUS FLIGHT PRICES
We also had a look at another popular holiday destination during the summer holidays, Spain. When we look at flights to Spain during the same dates, we see that travelling from London to Spain may be offered at more affordable prices compared to Cyprus. For example, with EasyJet, traveling from London to Spain for a family of four costs a total of £288.94 per person, while with Wizz Air, this amount is £423.52 per person.
