The Representative of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus in London, Çimen Keskin, has issued a message on the occasion of the Republic Day on November 15. Here are the statements from the Representative of the TRNC in London, Keskin:
“Dear members of the valuable Turkish Cypriot community living in the United Kingdom and dear brothers and sisters,
Today, we are experiencing the significance of celebrating the 40th anniversary of the establishment of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus with pride and honor, which symbolizes the struggle for freedom of the heroic Turkish Cypriot people. This struggle, crowned with the endless support of the Republic of Turkey, is a sacred fight for the future generations to live freely in their homeland.
On this special day, which is a concrete expression of our Republic’s sovereignty and independence, we recall the significant progress achieved by the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus in its 40-year history, achieved with great sacrifices. There are important responsibilities for all of us to ensure the continuation of these advancements.
As Turkish Cypriots living in the United Kingdom, your successes in various fields such as politics, science, civil society, business, art, sports, and culture contribute significantly to the international recognition that the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus deserves. The active and energetic efforts of our youth strengthen our belief in promoting the Turkish Cypriot cause more effectively in the United Kingdom and defending our just cause.
Our expectation from the international community regarding the Cyprus issue is for them to abandon the tried and exhausted methods and adopt a new approach, taking concrete steps towards the Turkish Cypriot people based on sovereign equality.
On this meaningful day, I remember with gratitude and respect our Freedom Struggle Leader Dr. Fazıl Küçük, our Founding President Rauf Raif Denktaş, and our martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the homeland. I extend my greetings with respect to our veterans, to the Republic of Turkey, which always supports us, and to our heroic people.”
