Ceyhun Uzun, a Met police officer in the UK, who lost his 20-year-old daughter Tanyel to cancer in 2016, has pasted the halfway mark on his bicycle journey with his colleague Ryan McKinlay who are raising money for children with cancer.

After Tanyel’s death, the Uzun family established the “Tanyel’s Smile” Foundation in the UK to help Turkish Cypriot children with cancer and their families.

Uzun and his colleague McKinlay, who had received the “Policeman of the Year” award in the UK and set three world records at the London Marathon, decided to go on a bike journey from London to the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) to raise awareness of cancer and collect donations.

As part of their campaign, the two officers have already organized tours in Paris and Belgium, Italy Greece and now Turkey after leaving London on September 23 on Wednesday had travelled 160km and had 125km to go until they reached the TRNC.

Ceyhun Uzun, a proud father who has been serving as a police officer for over 30 years in the UK, is determined to remember his beloved daughter Tanyel by helping Turkish Cypriot children fight cancer.

Uzun has said that he believes his daughter is proud of them for dedicating themselves to this cause, as her mother and father. Tanyel was their only child. She was diagnosed with bone cancer in 2013. Their daughter, who was engaged in gymnastics, maintained a healthy lifestyle, yet fell victim to cancer.

Uzun and his colleague McKinlay pedal 150 to 180 kilometres each day with a goal to be in the TRNC on October 21.
