Evin Art Gallery has announced Setenay Alpsoy’s first solo exhibition abroad to be opened at J/M Gallery in London between 31 May – 6 June 2023.
Alpsoy; With the exhibition ‘Under Another Light’; In addition to her 20 years of art experience; The megacity also carries the transforming face of Istanbul beyond the borders from the 1950s.
The high concrete block apartments, built to meet the housing need arising from the intense migration to the city since the beginning of the year, form the focal point of the artist’s canvases. While Alpsoy captures a striking geometric rhythm with the facade that completely covers the area and with windows, shutters and even air conditioning boxes on this facade, does not neglect to explain the irregular growth of the city.
While capturing the sparkling moments created by people forcing themselves to live in this unnatural environment; It touches upon the dilemmas between remaining an individual in this environment and being a part of this great living organism. ‘Under Another Light’ can be seen from May 31 to June 6, 2023, at J/M Gallery in Portobello Road, Notting Hill.
Alpsoy graduated from Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University Painting Department Neş’e Erdok Workshop in 2005.
