LIMASSOL Association UK members gathered in north London on Friday evening 25 November, where they held their annual Teachers’ Day celebration event.
This year Erkan Pastirmacioğlu was awarded the Exemplary Teacher of the Year, “for his work raising our children and young people with great care and bringing them into the society for years” the association also gave an award to Selin Mehmet for the Youngest Teacher Award, stating that she “attaches great importance to teaching and signals that she will be an educator to be valued in the future with every attempt she makes.”
Attending the event was its members and community members as well as The Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus’s (TNRC) London Education and Culture Attaché Metin Harper.
Association’s chair Arife Retvan said “We are happy. It was our desire to appeal to more people, but due to limited space, we could not recruit many people, even though we wanted to. We will support the Turkish Schools that request help from us with the income of this night. We will continue to work for our schools on every occasion.” Going on to thank guests for attending the event a supporting them.
Poems were read, a raffle held, and music played as guests enjoy the evening with one another over dinner together.
