The Near East Trio will perform this weekend at CheMen Cafe & Restaurant Cafe in Stoke Newington.
The Near East Trio performs traditional and popular songs from Greece to Turkey, from Arabic to Aramaic traditions, telling the stories of these regions through song. The group includes Rama Alcoutlabi on vocals and percussion, Mario Christofi on percussion and oud, and Ekin Ökener on oud and guitar.
In the initiative of the Local & Live in Hackney project, a small group of local musicians supporting musicians from Hackney’s rich traditions, The Near East Trio will be performing at 85 Stoke Newington Rd, London N16 8AA, CheMen Cafe on Sunday 23 October at 7.30pm, open to all and it is free.
Speaking to our newspaper on behalf of the Local & Live in Hackney project, Penny Waterhouse said: “Local & Live in Hackney is a small group of local musicians and artists.
