THE march organized by the Unite Union against the abolition of some bus services in the Haringey took place on Saturday, August 13.
The Turkish-Kurdish Solidarity Centre Day-Mer(Day-Mer) in London joined the march that started at Manor House.
Day-Mer used the following statement: “The abolition of the bus lines is an attack on the public transportation right of us workers, and this attack can only be prevented by mass struggle. That’s why we joined the march.
“Proposals to lower service levels on London’s bus network could affect four routes in Haringey.
“TfL announced last month that it had initiated consultation with the central government as it needed to make “significant savings” amid continued funding shortages. A total of 78 bus routes were interrupted as a result of the ‘managed decline’ scenario, and as many as 16 London bus routes could be cancelled altogether. Route 349, which currently runs between Waltham Cross Bus Station and Manor House Station, is one of the routes that could be undermined. Meanwhile, routes 259, 279 and 476 could face significant adjustments…”
Seb Dance, Deputy Mayor of London Transport, said: “TfL has carefully studied the affected routes to reduce the impact on passengers as much as possible. Changed routes are where there are very similar available services or where travellers will use the Mayor’s ‘Hopper’ fare to reach their destination.”
