Three non-governmental organizations operating in the UK came together on Friday, July 15 and protested in front of the Greek Embassy.

In the joint press statement, “We organized a demonstration in front of the Greek embassy to protest the Greek occupation of the island on July 15, 1974. We asked the Greek Government to explain its decisive role in the occupation of Cyprus. The Greek occupation of Cyprus had led the Guarantor Turkey to intervene in Cyprus on 20 July 1974, in order to protect the Turkish Cypriots on the island.

“Turkish Cypriots were exposed to deadly attacks by the Greek Cypriots, who were four times more numerous than them, in 1956, 1958, 1963, 1964 and 1967. These attacks were carried out by the Greek Cypriot terrorist organization EOKA, the police and national guard, and 20,000 soldiers from Greece. The Greek invasion of Cyprus was conceived on 15 July 1974 in alliance with the fascist Colonels’ Junta regime in Greece and the Greek Cypriot nationalists. The aim of this alliance was to ethnically clear the Turkish Cypriots from the island and thus provide a ‘final solution’ to the Cyprus problem.

The organizer of the event, Nejla Clements, made the following statement: “People who care about Cyprus around the world need to understand the real facts of Cyprus and the grievances of Turkish Cypriots until 20 July 1974, when Turkey came to the rescue. We are delighted that many have joined this show to make this point loud and clear.”

Three non-governmental organizations operating in the UK reported that they sent a letter to the Greek Ambassador in London demanding an apology from Greece for its role in initiating all the violence in 1974.
