Mete Coban has received his MBE for his work engaging young people in the UK and Europe in democracy.
One of the younger recipients of an MBE, 27-year-old Coban, is also a Hackney councillor for Stoke Newington.
Celebrating receiving his award Coban posted “I’m Mete Coban, a 28 year old, born in Northern Cyprus, raised in Hackney, with two immigrant parents whose dad is a cab driver and mum is a care worker. I dedicate this honour to the youth of Hackney – keep fighting to make this world a better place**”
Prince Charles presented his MBE award while he was joined by his father, Coban’s partners celebrated his achievement together.
Coban, who co-founded the charity My Life My Say which aims to empower young people to participate in democracy, by creating spaces for dialogue across communities, and by providing young and socially excluded citizens with the tools to lead change within society.
