The Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus(TRNC) has announced that UK, as well as the South of Cyprus and Russia, have been placed on the red list.
This means anyone travelling entering the country will have to have a PCR test done 72 hours before departure and then carry out a 10day quarantine.
The decision comes after the UK reported more than 30,000 new cases of Covid for the second day.
While the south of the Island has seen Europe also place them onto its red list, with cases rising at a high rate of nearly 1,000 new cases a day.
In a statement issued on Thursday night (July 8), the Undersecretary for the Health Ministry Assoc. Prof. Dr Düriye Deren Oygar said that there was no change to the current procedures at crossing points between the two sides on the island.
She said that although South Cyprus was now listed in the ‘red category of countries, no changes will be made for crossings because it falls under ‘level 2’ for conditions applying for crossings as stated under article 45/2018 Infectious Disease Law.
Oygar reminded that the procedure of crossing with a negative PCR or Rapid PCR test every 7 days will continue but will only apply for Greek Cypriots and persons who reside permanently in South Cyprus.
Meanwhile, the bi-communal Technical Committee on Health is expected to meet and re-evaluate the procedures at crossing points due to a rise in case numbers.
Individuals travelling from the UK and Russia, which are currently listed under the red category of countries, can enter the TRNC with a “negative PCR test result 72 hours prior to their flight but will have to quarantine for 10 days regardless of whether or not they are vaccinated.
The procedure will come into force from Monday, July 12.
In the last 24hours of July 8, TRNC has reported 133 new positive cases.
