The Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus’s (TRNC) Health Minister Ünal Üstel on Monday said that the government’s plan was to start domestic tourism in April.

Without given any specific dates, Üstel hinted that future plans for international tourists could initially mean vaccinated travelled being allowed into the country and later those travellers who with proof of two negative PCR tests.

“We will first start with domestic tourism. Then we will start accepting tourists from abroad with proof of vaccination and finally, we will allow tourists to come with double PCR tests. However our focus is to start domestic tourism in April,” Üstel told a news outlet in the country.

Also urged the public to continue to adhere to COVID-19 measures he said: “People should continue to be sensitive on social distancing, wearing masks and practising stricter hygiene,”. Üstel also said the government was planning to introduce stricter penalties and higher fines for those who flouted the rules.

Touching upon plans to introduce home-isolation or quarantine, Minister Üstel said that work on the electronic bracelet monitoring system was near completion and would be ready by the beginning of April.
