Brits will be banned from South Cyprus when it reopens to tourists next month.

South Cyprus’s Transport Minister Yiannis Karousos said the country will allow direct flights from 19 countries in two stages starting on June 9 with hotels opening from June 1.

All the countries on the list have been chosen because of their coronavirus data.

The UK has failed to make it on to with of the lists, this cases a doubt over when British travels will be able to enter the country.

Flights will be allowed from Greece, Malta, Bulgaria, Norway, Austria, Finland, Slovenia, Hungary, Israel, Denmark, Germany, Slovakia and Lithuania in the first stage.

Switzerland, Poland, Romania, Croatia, Estonia and the Czech Republic will all be allowed as part of the second stage from June 20.

Visitors will have to test negative for coronavirus within 72 hours of their flight if they want to be accepted during the first stage.

However, from June 20, those holidaymakers from the initial 13 countries won’t have to take the test..

Crossing to and from North and South

Crossings used by thousands of Cypriots daily between the Turkish and Greek Cypriot sides shut by the coronavirus lockdown will gradually start reopening from June 8, an official said on Thursday.

On Thursday, following a phone conversation between TRNC’s President Mustafa Akinci and South Cyprus’s President Nicos Anastasiades it was announced that some restrictions on movement between the two sides would be lifted.

To begin with, specific groups of people will be allowed to cross from June 8 but only using a car. The groups include Turkish Cypriots working or studying in the south of the island or people who undergo treatment at the Bank of Cyprus Oncology Centre, the Institute of Neurology and Genetics and state or private hospitals within the South.

Maronite Cypriots who live in the North of the island will also be permitted to cross.

No timeline has been given for citizens or travellers wanting to cross the border for for things such as shopping, visiting and travel.

Coronvirus in Cyprus 

TRNC has not reported any new COVID-19 infections since April, they have a total of 108 cases and four deaths.

The latest tally for South Cyprus was 922 cases and 17 deaths.
