A press statement was shared by the Atatürk Society UK on the Sivas masacre commemoration day. It stated that they will not forget the massacre stating:
“On July 2nd 1993, during the Pir Sultan Abdal festivities in Sivas, 33 poets including Behçet Aysan, Metin Altıok, Uğur Kaynar, Hasret Gültekin, Nesimi Çimen and Asım Bezirci writer and thinker with 2 hotel employees in Madımak Hotel by radical Islamists on the 25th anniversary of the massacre, we cannot fulfil our responsibilities towards them…
Today, religious, ethnicity and denomination are used as the most important source of politics as it is yesterday, and as a result of this, society is separated by spreading seeds among people living together for years. Day is the day when we all unite and break these games…” the also shared a poem by Edip Akbayram.
